Once again District Cub Camp took place at Rhyl Rugby Club’s ground on the Waen over the weekend of 9th to 11th July . The theme this year was Africa and as the World Cup was taking place in South Africa we held our own Cubs World Cup to kick off camp on Friday evening!

7 Packs attended this year, bringing around 100 Cubs to the fun and games. They were 1st Rhyl, 2nd Rhyl, 1st Rhuddlan, 1st Carmel, 1st Denbigh, 6th Prestatyn and 3rd Prestatyn. A warm welcome to 1st Denbigh on their first District Camp for some time.

After the football competition our group went on a short hike to find bat activity and we saw some and used bat detectors to listen to their calls. Bats use sound to build a picture of their surroundings. The sounds they emit are a higher frequency than we are able to hear so the detector changes these sounds to an audible frequency. Their echolocation system enables them to catch even tiny insects. Find out more at http://www.bats.org.uk/

Saturday was filled with 7 bases put on by each Pack. Ours was making Zulu inspired shields with one Cub’s painted design picked from each group. These went through to the final from which an overall winner was chosen by the DC, Andy Colin. Good choice Andy, one of ours! During the day a Shelter Box display showed everyone what the money raised for the appeal is spent on. Find out more at http://www.shelterbox.org

A wide game of tails kept the Cubs busy for an hour after tea followed by a campfire sing song to end the day.

Circus Skills took each group of Cubs in turn while the rest took part in games  of all sorts run by Dave Beard ADC helped by whoever was available.

Keith led the Scouts Own and the camp closed by 3 p.m.

A big THANK YOU to the 3rd Prestatyn families who did so much to make this camp a success, such support is much appreciated and extremely encouraging.

More text and pictures will be added when I get chance.
