On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October Scouts were able to take part in the International Jamboree on the Air (JOTA).
This involved communicating with Scouts (and other interested parties) from all over the world using short wave radio. The radios were supplied by Wynne Evans, Martin Jones, John Lawrence and Kevin Shepard. They were all kind enough to run the radio station for 24 hours.
1st Rhyl Scout Group were the first to try it out and were able to talk to Scout groups in the UK and radio hams from Russia and Norway.
3rd Prestatyn Scouts were able to enjoy a sleepover and used the radios for the rest of the evening and into the early morning. Fifty three contacts were made, not all of them Scout groups.
Pins were placed on a map of the world to show which countries were contacted.
Big thanks mu st go to our brave Scout leaders Simon, Jane and Mitch who all stayed through the night. Thanks also to Matthew who supervised at the beginning.
A grant was obtained from Prestatyn Town Council which was used for room hire and provisions.
